It’s been a decade since a new public high school was constructed on the south side of Calgary.  That will all change with the opening of a new high school in Seton.

The as-yet unnamed school is expected to open in September of 2018.  Plans will be presented at a New Schools Open House from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Wed. Dec 2 hosted by the Calgary Board of Education at their building at 1221 – 8 St SW.

New projects showcased during the open house include other public schools, such as elementary schools for the community of Martindale in the North East, Silverado in the South West, and an elementary/middle school for Springbank Hill and Discovery Ridge.  These communities have designated space for new schools.  Martindale has been waiting for 25

Ground has broken on Carrington, a new North West community with 3,400 homes expected to be built.

This new neighbour is north of Stoney Trail on the east side of 14 St NW. It’s expected that Carrington will take a decade to be built on the 397-acre (161 hectare) parcel of land.

This area of the North West is very scenic, with rolling prairie and lush pastures stretching out across the horizon towards Airdrie.  This area is well served by Calgary’s major roadways and is close to existing amenities such as Creekside Shopping Centre and Evanston Towne Centre, not to mention Cross Iron Mills on the QEII Highway at Balzac.

An exhibit found at the Calgary Global Petroleum may indicate the future of housing in Calgary and other areas of the world. It shows a series of stackable residential units, which are fixed together. These residences provide the ability for quick-build steel structures for work camps.

As an alternative to cramped trailers and portable toilets, the stackable units are already being considered for by many companies. However, will they become the model that spurs new growth in larger cities with stackable residences taking over the market?
