Valentine's Day plans don't have to require a ton of forethought to make a positive impact on loved ones—but it's always fun to do something special. No matter what you choose, the time together will undoubtedly turn out to be a treasured memory. For those without any concrete plans yet, here are five excellent Valentine's events in Calgary to consider.
Calgary Zoo—In the Heat of the Night
In their long-running tradition, established in 1995, the Calgary Zoo yet again hosts their Valentine's Day bash, In the Heat of the Night. Due to its popularity, this event is hosted on February 10th, 13th, and 14th, running from 6 to 10 p.m. Guests can start arriving at 5:30. Couples will be treated to an incredible four-course meal and a humorous adults-only evening show.
Candlelight Valentine's Day Jazz Concert
Experience a romantic jazz concert with your loved one amid the lights of thousands of flickering candles. Located at The Commons at ATCO Park, this multi-sensory musical extravaganza will feature a bevy of romantic pieces performed by the Malcolm Aiken Jazz Quartet. From Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon" to Louis Armstrong's "La Vie en Rose," you and your special someone are in for a night to remember. There are two concerts on the 14th, one at 6 p.m. and one at 8 p.m., each lasting an hour. Doors open 45 minutes beforehand, and seating is first-come, first-served for each zone. Tickets are online only, so be sure to book before you arrive.
Vin Gogh Paint Sip Studio—Valentine's Date Night
The Valentine's date night event is on again this year at the Vin Gogh Paint Sip Studio from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on February 14th. At this painting parlour, guests can have a glass of wine with their dates while collaborating on an art project. By the end of the night, many couples might be surprised by just how much more they can learn about each other by chatting over wine and creating artistic works together.
Congress Coffee Company—L.O.L: Lots o' Love Comedy Show
What better way to celebrate love than with laughter? This adults-only comedy show will have you in stitches. Featured comedians include Mollie Risa, Gabby Rose, Victoria Banner, and Chester Ho, each with a unique charisma and sense of humor. The show runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the 14th, and while Congress is an alcohol-free venue, the drinks include the coffee shop's YYC Hot Chocolate entry to give you the warm fuzzies. Just make sure not to sip right before the punchline!
Jane Bond BBQ—Valentine's Day Pirate Wedding Dinner Show
On February 16th, from 6 to 9 p.m., everyone is invited to swing on by Jane Bond BBQ for an interactive rom-com dinner show experience. Tickets include two seats, though all "mateys" are welcome to attend this family-friendly event. You'll have the choice of a bottle of wine, prosecco, or a craft beer flight for two, plus a barbecue feast fit for the Pirate King himself. Come as you are or visit the Costume Shoppe and join the crew! Every attendee gets to make off with some pirate booty in the form of a Shop Jane barbecue rub, spice blend, or cornbread mix.
