People are still buying homes in Calgary and at less than $200,000 for a brand new condo, it’s still possible to get out of renting and into your own home.
In February, the benchmark price for condo units in our city fell to $283,600 so prices are getting within reach of many. Some of the city’s newest multi-family projects in Calgary can be found well under the city’s average.
If you love the south side of Calgary then check out the up and coming community of Legacy and Legacy Park, currently under construction by Brad Remington Homes. This company’s hallmark is quality and affordability. Brad Remington also built Copperfield Park.
One of the floor plans offered at $189,900 is the G Plan. It’s 691 sq. ft. but for just a bit more money you can look at a two-bedroom, two-bathroom configuration. There’s lots of room in the living room and for that rock bottom price, you can still get stone countertops, nine-foot ceilings and soft-close cabinets and drawers.
Truman Homes is the builder of this very unique multi-family project in the north east community of Skyview Ranch. Why rent, when for $188,000 you can own a 645 sq. ft. one bedroom, one bathroom plus den unit. You even have a patio for outdoor living. Some units have titled parking underground and extra storage. At no extra cost, you can have granite in the kitchen, stainless steel and a herringbone backsplash.
Let’s go back down south to Auburn Bay, a premier lake community in Calgary’s south east within ear shot of the new South Health Campus Hospital. Auburn Walk is a two-building project with a courtyard and a pathway that connects to the shopping centre.
The Georgian model home is under $200,000 with 572 sq. ft. of living space. That means two bedrooms and a bath starting at $192,900. Of course, if you have a slightly bigger budget you can add to this space and upgrade the standard features. But you’ll probably like the modern cabinets, full backsplash, chrome fixtures in the bathroom and the plush 38-ounce carpet.
Origins at Cranston
Still in the south, Streetside Developments have a 68-unit building in Cranston that boasts a good price but better location. Walk to the store, the bus top and hop on the bike path to the Bow River Pathway system in seconds. The Aspen model is one bedroom, one bathroom and if that’s all the space you require, it’s $190,000. That gives you an open kitchen with ample space to cook and a pantry. Add to that the Whirlpool appliances and nine-foot ceilings and you’re set.
Newport in Airdrie
Genesis has created this charming multi-family development just north of Calgary with garden homes from $180,000. It’s in the Airdrie neighbourhood of Canal Landing. That gives you 750 sq. ft. of space and one bedroom, one bathroom. Nine-foot ceilings are so great because they make small spaces seem so much bigger. There’s an L-shaped kitchen with more storage than you’d expect, plus five stainless steel appliances, and that includes a chimney hood fan over the stove and an island measuring nine-foot in length. You will also like the wide plank flooring.
