An event called “Giving Tuesday” kicks off donations for the holiday season. This campaign encourages Canadians nationwide to help people meet their needs. This time of year can be one of the most demanding for some.
Help can come in the form of money, donations and volunteering. The following is a list of just some charities that could use your help:
Inn From the Cold
This is an emergency, temporary emergency shelter for individuals and families. Inn From the Cold is also open year round and their needs are basically the same, including but not limited to, clothes, hygiene products kitchen needs, etc.
The Drop-In Center
Calgarians that have mental health problems, poverty and addictions can find refuge at The Drop-In Center. During the holiday season they offer a Wish List Program that meets holiday needs.
Calgary Dream Center
Men suffering from homelessness and addiction and need rehabilitation can come to this Center. They try to keep their patrons off of the street during the frigid temperatures. Donations go towards food, resources, hygiene and upkeep of the center.
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels needs monetary donations to buy ingredients to make their meals for Seniors. They even make special holiday meals during the season.
The Mustard Seed
This charity supports adults that struggling and/or homeless. They provide clothing, housing, food and support services. They are in need of transit tickets, socks, food, etc.
Calgary Women’s Center
Women struggling with food, housing and income can utilize the Center. The Center has a Gift Room during the holiday season so that they can give gifts to their children. They are in need of unwrapped, new gifts for women and children.
The Magic of Christmas
They deliver gifts each year to approximately 400 families in need of a Christmas. They are looking for gift donations and volunteers to help deliver to these families.
