There are plenty of tourist attractions throughout Calgary for out of town guests to enjoy. However, if you want to show them the real city, you have to know where to go. Here are a few places to enjoy, which don't fall into the tourist attraction category.
The Fluevog Museum
If you're out of town guests love shoes, this museum is the perfect choice for them. It's a mini museum dedicated to the history of Fluevog Shoes. These wild and wacky shoes are quite unique and they often hold art shows in the basement gallery.
Silver Dragon Restaurant
The dim sum at Silver Dragon may be the best in the city and this is the type of restaurant that Calgarians enjoy regularly. Not only can you enjoy dim sum at a table, but you can also just stop the dim sum trolley and enjoy it from there, too.
Indigo Books & Movies
This independent bookstore is one of the best choices in Calgary. They carry all types of magazines and great books for everybody to enjoy. These types of stores used to be a staple in Calgary, but have been replaced with chain store. However, Indigo is still thriving and provides a great local place for out of town guests.
The Calgary Zoo & TELUS Spark
While these two fascinating places are next door to each other and could easily take a day to tour, both can be experienced in one trip to keep out-of-town guests entertained and engaged. The Calgary Zoo is wonderful any time of year, as there are plenty of indoor attractions as well as the outdoor animal exhibits. The zoo boasts lovely gardens, a wonderful kid’s playground and a number of cool things to see and experience inside the Centre for Conservation and Research.
TELUS Spark is an innovative science center with interactive exhibits and displays designed to elicit one’s curiosity and imagination. Ideal for both adults and children, TELUS also offers an array of films and planetarium style narrated shows at The Dome Theatre. Your out-of-town guests will simply love these memorable Calgary experiences, and tickets can be booked online for convenience.
The Globe Cinema
Independent films are found at The Globe Cinema on 8th Avenue year-round. This venue provides all types of good shows to enjoy with a bucket of popcorn and a box of candy.
This may be the best local coffee shop in Calgary and one of the top places for watching people, too. Caffe Rosso is a great choice for locally roasted coffee beans and so much more.
If you have friends or family coming in from out of town, hit up any of these spots for a great afternoon or evening.
