Whether you prefer a park or just a scenic area, you can find a place to ride your bike. Here are some of the top choices for your next biking experience in Calgary.
Fish Creek Provincial Park
Found in the southern section of Calgary, this park is perfect for biking. The large network of trails allows for plenty of riding, while the picnic tables, washrooms and fire pits provide plenty of amenities for families.
The River Valley
Those living in Hillhurst or Sunnyside will find The River Valley to be very accessible. This area overlooks the Bow River and provides plenty of beauty. You can enjoy the Trans Canada Trail and the Glenmore Reservoir here, as you ride throughout the area.
With a 15km paved loop, this may be the best area in Calgary for riding your bike. This loop will allow you to enjoy the Reservoir, the Elbow River and the Weaselhead Area. It's very accessible from the Lake View and Canyon Meadows area.
Lake Minnewanka Loop
Fantastic mountain views, breathtaking lake scenery and a surplus of wildlife grace cyclist who take on the challenge of the Lake Minnewanka Loop. Parking is available just past the entrance to the park at Lake Minnewanka, but do take a moment to stop and explore the Cascade Ponds before unloading the bike.
One can start the loop from Johnson Lake and go counterclockwise or begin at Lake Minnewanka and tour the loop clockwise to avoid a couple of huge climbs, but either way will suffice to explore these spectacular landscapes. There are plenty of places along the loop to take ‘side' journeys by foot down trails to experience less traveled spaces, but be sure to carry bear spray when out and about on the back trails for safety.
Nose Hill Park
Those living in the northern part of Calgary will love biking in Nose Hill Park. This park provides plenty of pathways for bikers and has a dozen surrounding communities. You can enjoy about 14kms of trails here and plenty of amenities throughout.
All of these areas are perfect for biking throughout the Calgary area. Whether you live in the north, south or any other area of the city, you can find a scenic trial for your bike ride during the spring, summer and fall.
