You may have heard about Calgary Pro Musica, the non-profit organization in Calgary that promotes and celebrates chamber music. They hold concerts that feature chamber ensembles that can be seen performing in the Eckhardt-Gramatte Hall in the University of Calgary’s Rozsa Centre.
The community benefits from this organization due to their music outreach and learning programs. They’ve been around for over 35 years in Calgary. Here is a look at what Calgary Pro Musica does.
About the Organization
Calgary Pro Musica has done work in the community including:
- Sponsored public broadcasts of their concert performances
- Engage 5 international chamber music ensembles for annual seasons of concerts
- Sponsor concert receptions for musicians to meet with audience members
- Present classes at the University of Calgary’s Department of Music with visiting artists
Concerts this Season
You can check out performances for the 2014-2015 concert season. Check out the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Centre on January 18th and 19th, the Strings Evolving with Jazz on February 9th, the Venice Baroque Orchestra with Avi Avital (mandolin) this March 8th and 9th as well as the Calder Quartet on April 12th and 13th.
You can get a Master Series Subscription which including 5 performances for $150 of individual tickets for $40. Horizons Series Subscriptions are $80 or individual tickets at $35. Masters & Horizons Combo Subscriptions are $210. Tickets can be purchased through the University of Calgary’s Campus Ticket Centre.
Where are the concerts and where should I park?
The performances take place at Eckhardt-Gramatte Hall inside the Rozsa Centre of the University of Calgary. It’s described as a “384 seat acoustic marvel” and is a premiere musical recital facility in this part of Canada. You can park at the Art Parkade which can be found by taking the first right off University Gate.
