Be sure to see all the excitement as the sky lights up on tonight with the Globalfest fireworks. Japan will be setting off its fireworks over Elliston Park tomorrow and it's an event that you won't want to miss. The Akariya Fireworks by Japan came in first place in Vancouver's Celebration of Lights, which was held recently.

During the upcoming 9 days, you'll be able to see amazing fireworks that are being put on by France, Vietnam and Thailand. During the Globalfest that was held last year, France was the overall winner. On August 23 the finale will be presented by Sirius Pyrotechnics from Canada. You may have to look on Kijiji to get tickets for the finale, however, since it is currently sold out. This is the first time in the history of Globalfest that the finale has completely sold out.

All of the countries must shoot off their fireworks with a composition by Donovan Seidle called Oneworld Fanfare Epic. All of the pyrotechnic displays will be judged based on how well the fireworks and the composition are presented.

You may also want to go to Elliston Park today to take in the 19 cultural pavilions. There will also be 10 food kiosks, which are offering ethnic foods. This year, there is a new Portuguese kiosk and a Pakistan pavilion. Tickets for the event cost $20 per adult and are available at London Drugs and Calgary Co-Op.

Globalfest first started back in 2003 with 3 countries that were presenting fireworks and 10 cultural pavilions. During its first year almost 100,000 people attended the event making it one of the top draws in Calgary for both tourists and residents.

Since this is a pyrotechnic competition, you can expect a top-of-the-line light show. If you haven't seen fireworks competitions before, you'll want to make your way to Elliston Park to see at least one of the presentations that will be lighting the skies in the coming days.
