April was a busy month for resale activity in Airdrie according to the Calgary Real Estate Board statistics. There were 169 sales that took place last month and house prices reached a record high. The average sale price for a home in Airdrie was $391,000 for the second consecutive month.
This was also the second month in a row that the city recorded the second highest sales amount. It's a great start for the spring season and an indicator of future growth in the market.
In Calgary, the average sale price dropped slightly from $485,000 that was recorded in March to $479,000 in April. At the same time, the numbers dropped for the average days on market in Calgary from 28 days in March to 27 days in April.
Currently there are 208 listings that are active in Airdrie. This provides a lot more options to potential buyers that are looking for a lower-priced home in one of the surrounding towns. As the prices continue to rise in Calgary for single-family homes, many people are looking at the options that are available in the bedroom communities around Calgary.
Okotoks, Airdrie, Cochrane, and Strathmore all offer better housing prices overall than what can be found in Calgary proper. As well, for the lower-price you will generally end up with a larger home with a bigger lot. Many families that want to upgrade to a detached single-family home are looking for a large backyard. This is where the outdoor barbecues with neighbors can take place and children can run around and play.
