The Calgary Fringe Festival is running from August 1to August 9 in Inglewood and this year you can keep track of all of the productions on the Calgary Fringe iApp. You'll be able to see the full guide on your iPhone and you can use it to plan your own schedule of the shows that you'd like to see the most. You can also share your shows with others through the FESTFINDER app that's available at the iTunes store.
If you've never been to the Fringe Festival in Inglewood before, you'll want to fit it into your plan this year. A Fringe is an uncensored theater festival that first began in 1947 in Edinburgh Scotland. It's the largest arts festival in the world and the second biggest North American festival is held in Edmonton every year where 800,000 people attend it on average.
The Calgary Fringe Festival lasts for 9 days and offers a total of 26 local, international and national productions. In total there are more than 160 performances put on over the course of the 9 days. All of the revenue that is earned is return to the artists while donations and sponsorships help keep the Fringe running every year.
The festival will be held at a variety of venues in Inglewood that include:
- Gym at the Lantern Church
- Festival Hall
- Sanctuary at the Lantern Church
- ArtPoint Gallery
- Venue Boutiques
- Alexandra Centre Society
- Lolita's Lounge
- Gravity Espresso & Wine Bar
- Loose Moose Theatre
If this is going to be your first time attending the festival, prepare to get hooked. These are amazing performances and you can choose the ones that you want to see the most by looking through the reviews. The Fringe offers artists the chance to create without having restrictions and through this concept a true community sense of art is born.
