Proposed Stoney Trail Extension Highway 1 to Highway 8 (Glenmore Trail) -West Calgary Ring Road

Many people are wondering where will the West Calgary Ring Road go when (and IF) it will be constructed. Most people in Calgary are sick of hearing about the SW leg of the ring road that has been talked about for well over 40 years. The proposed plan for the West portion of the Calgary Ring Road - Stoney Trail extension between Highway 1 (Trans-Canada- Highway) and Highway 8 (Glenmore Trail) will include interchanges at Old Banff Coach Road, Bow Trail and 17th Avenue.

Travelling south from the Trans Canada Highway (HWY1) it will go along the west end of Canada Olympic Park then along 101st Street SW & west of the following communities, Cougar Ridge, West Springs, Aspen Woods, The Slopes and Springbank Hill.

These proposed plans are subject to change and there is no definite time line on when construction will start or when it will be completed. The city of Calgary and the province continue to try to reach a deal with the Tsuu T'ina nation even after more than 40 years of discussions with the tribe. It may seem like a never ending process for Calgarians. Do you think we will ever see this free way built? Feel free to discuss.
