Do You Want to Make Your Calgary Home Greener?

The Calgary green trend is driving forward at critical speed and Calgary's not prepared to be left in the dust. As the nation's energy city, Calgary still needs to do its part in greening up the country and fortunately Calgarians are stepping up to the task at hand.

If you need to do some greening up on your home here are a few helpful tips you can use right away to help conserve a bit of energy and help deflate those energy bills.

1. Ceiling fans

Ceiling fans can be used in any type of weather. In the winter you can use them to push the warm air down and in the summer switch them on to make the heat rise to help keep your place cool.

2. Tankless heaters

Have you heard about the new tankless water heaters? These gadgets are simply amazing. Instead of heating tankfuls of gas at a time you can think of them as a sort of "hot water on demand" type of deal. People that have been using these heaters have reported wonderful savings in hot water costs on a yearly basis.

3. Purchase a digital thermostat

These thermostats take all of the guesswork out of setting the home temperature. Without a correct reading on the thermostat you’ll probably find yourself fiddling with the controls trying to find the right comfort level. With a digital model you'll never be left out in the cold again wondering how warm the room really is.

A lot of people play a game with this and set the thermostat down a degree or two during the night to see how much money can be saved. Extra blankets are used during the colder months and then the heat is turned back up in the morning. Many families are recording remarkable savings and find that they actually get a better night's sleep when they are huddled under their snug pile of blankets for the night.

These are just a couple of Calgary energy home tips that you can use right now to get started on saving money and helping out the environment. As the energy capital of Canada it really is the least we can do, isn't it?
